Stephen Dorff has joined the expanding cast of Tarsem's (The Fall) potentially-3D swords-and-sandals flick War of the GodsVariety reports that Dorff will play Stavros, a master thief who joins Theseus (played by Henry Cavill) on his quest to help free Greece from the dark threat of the Titans.  Mickey Rourke will play the villainous King Hyperion while Kellan Lutz (Twilight) will play Poseidon, an ally of Theseus.  The film also stars Frieda Pinto as Phaedra, an oracle priestess who also joins Theseus on his quest.

This is the second time in the past year that Dorff has teamed up with a noted indie director.  The actor recently starred in Sofia Coppola's upcoming film Somewhere.  I would say these kinds of roles are a step up from the under-handed knife-throwing kills of Alone in the Dark.

War of the Gods (which may also end up being called Dawn of War) is slated to hit theaters on November 11, 2011...11/11/11.
