Despite the presence of Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc, and even the return of Batfleck, people can’t stop talking about Jared Leto’s Joker when it comes to Suicide Squad. The David Ayer film will hit theaters this August and there’ve been countless testimonies and reports about his unique method of prep work to get into the character’s head space. Now, thanks to a new interview between the actor and the folks on CNBC’s Squawk Box, we have some info on this Joker’s maniacal laugh.

DC fans got a taste of the Joker in the marketing campaign so far, and Leto said it took a lot of walking around the street and creeping out pedestrians. He said:

I worked on the laugh, like, walking around the streets of New York and Toronto, and I kinda would walk around the streets and see what laugh would get under people’s skin. You know if you hear someone laugh loud at a restaurant? It’s a little jarring. Yeah, I tried them out. And I kind of got to a place where I would laugh and people always turn around like, “What is this creepy guy behind me?”

That’s when he knew he got it right. It’s still less creepy than sending his co-workers gifts like a live rat, bullets, a dead pig, and anal beads.

Leto joins a cast that includes Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, and more. The next installment of the DCEU tells of a post-Man of Steel world where there are some who see Superman as a threat to mankind. Enter Task Force X, a team made up of super-powered villains who execute covert missions for the government in exchange for leniency on prison time.

Suicide Squad will hit theaters on August 5th.
