One of the most anticipated games expected to come out next year is Rocksteady Studios’ Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and since its official reveal in 2020 we have slowly gotten more details on the upcoming release. Coming off the story trailer at this year's DC FanDome in October, a new gameplay trailer entitled "Flash and Burn" was released at The Game Awards on Thursday night. Amanda Waller voice actor Debra Wilson introduced the footage to the crowd in character and, in typical Waller fashion, she hilariously threatened the crowd not to talk about the squad’s Justice League mission.

The almost 3-minute long trailer officially starts out with a pretty funny scene of Captain Boomerang making fun of the Flash, calling him the team's mascot and “the loser of the League” before The Flash himself speeds in and knocks him out. From there the footage moves on to the best look at the gameplay we have seen to date.

The team consisting of Boomerang, Harley Quinn, King Shark, and Deadshot show off the various different abilities players can use to fight Brainiac’s forces and traverse Metropolis. Their jet packs, super speed, a handful of different guns for third-person shooter gameplay, wall running/climbing, and the classic grappling hook seen throughout the previous Batman Arkham series are all represented here. This fast-paced co-op gameplay looks like pure enjoyable chaos and feels very inspired by games like Insomniac’s Sunset Overdrive with all the Rocksteady quirks fans loved about their Batman games.

This footage reminds us of one thing: “don’t be a hero,” which is a sort of reversal of Batman: Arkham Knight’s tag line: “Be the Batman." Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is the first game for Rocksteady since they closed out their Batman Arkham trilogy in 2015 with Arkham Knight, which saw the “death” of The Dark Knight. This multiplayer game is set in the same Arkham universe with Batman being the only Justice League member not seen in any of the marketing thus far. The league currently consists of Superman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, and John Stewart Green Lantern. It is up to the Suicide Squad to defeat the mind-controlled League and stop Brainiac from taking over the world.

There is still no release date as of now, but the game has a 2022 release window and you can watch the full chaotic gameplay trailer down below. For all the latest news on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, stick with Collider.
