Earlier this week, we shared the news that Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad had wrapped principal photography as Jai Courtney and Margot Robbie celebrated the conclusion of their work by visiting a six-year-old’s lemonade stand. Well it appears that filming may not have entirely wrapped that day, but per director David Ayer, they’re finished now. The filmmaker, who’s been sharing peeks behind-the-scenes on Twitter over the course of production, shared a new image today featuring (nearly) the entire Suicide Squad cast and crew calling it a wrap on the DC Comics adaptation.
I say “nearly” because Jared Leto is not in the photo (at least I don’t think—maybe you can spot him Where’s Waldo-style!). As you may or may not have heard, Leto is a method actor and stayed in character on the Suicide Squad set, so he’s been absent from many of these social media shenanigans. That doesn’t mean he still didn’t work hard on the film—he reached out to his co-stars by sending odd gifts—and it’s also possible that he’s not in the photo simply because his scenes wrapped before this last day of production.
Regardless, while this image doesn’t give us another look at Leto’s Joker, it does give us another look at the rest of the cast, including Cara Delevingne’s Enchantress, who looks significantly different than she did in the first cast image that was unveiled just before filming began.
Judging by al the social media posts (and the fact that they all literally gave each other tattoos), it’s clear that most of the ensemble had a significant bonding experience on the picture, and as a fan of Ayer’s work I’m really looking forward to seeing how this all comes together. For now, take a look at Ayer’s cast photo as well as Leto’s own teases of him literally shedding The Joker below, followed by a refresher on who’s playing who in the DC Comics adaptation. Suicide Squad opens in theaters on August 5, 2016.
