It appears that Super Troopers 2 is finally, actually, truly happening. We broke the news yesterday that the sequel to the 2001 cult comedy hit had secured distribution from 20th Century Fox, and that the Broken Lizard crew—Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske—were launching an Indiegogo campaign to fund the film. After years of development and trying to get it off the ground, this came as welcome news to Super Troopers fans, but the question remained whether they’d raise enough money to actually make the movie.

As of today, just one day after launching their Indiegogo campaign, Super Troopers 2 has reached its full minimum goal of $2 million in funds. Per the initial statement, this means the movie will move to production, but the Broken Lizard guys made it clear that in order to make the version of Super Troopers 2 they want to make, they’ll need more than $2 million—that was just the minimum needed to get the bare bones version off the ground. If they raise more money, promises of louder explosions, cameos from “real Hollywood actors," and more full-frontal Farva have been made.

The page also notes that the more money that’s raised, the better the chances of a wide release. A significant amount of funds raised apparently proves to Fox that there’s a real demand to see the movie, meaning it’ll open in more theaters—though I imagine either way some sort of VOD component will be involved.

So if you want to keep donating to the campaign, feel free to head over to the page. More perks will be added now that the goal has been reached, and the plan is to start filming Super Troopers 2 this summer.
