CBS has posted a lot of clips from the Supergirl pilot and behind-the-scenes video on the series, but none of it really seems to be catching a spark. (You can read Dave’s review of the pilot from Comic Con, though keep in mind it’s going through extensive reshoots). The series, as most of you well know by now, comes from the executive producing team of Ali Adler, Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Sarah Schecter, who all (or in part) are responsible for Arrow and The Flash on the CW. There are a lot of things to love about those series, so this will definitely have to be a wait-and-see situation. Currently, though, it feels like the show leaves something to be desired.

As for this new clip, which you can view below, star Melissa Benoist and the executive producers weigh in on Kara’s past, and give a detailed look at her origin story, including how Superman fits in (or doesn't fit in) to the picture. All of this feels pretty well hashed-out at this point, so the best part comes from co-star Mechad Brooks, who ends things by saying, “to truly be great you have to accept yourself.” Simple and true, and perhaps it portends that Supergirl will take its position at the vanguard of super-powered female role models (in the current TV and movie landscape, anyway) with dutiful positivity.

Supergirl premieres Monday, October 26th at 8:30 p.m. ET
