Supergirl burst onto the television landscape last night on CBS and looks to continue the super-powered adventures of Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) every Monday night. In order to give viewers a taste of what's to come in its first season, the Supergirl team has released a new trailer. It teases more powers that are worthy of Superman's cousin, plus complicated romances for mild-mannered Kara Danvers. While scenes of Supergirl battling an imposing list of supervillains are great teases, perhaps the most powerful scene of all is the one that reveals Kara finally standing up to her obnoxious boss, Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart).

Also seen in this trailer are new glimpses of Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan) and James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) as Kara's allies. Also appearing in the first season of Supergirl are Peter Facinelli’s character Maxwell Lord, Reactron (Chris Browning), Vartox (Owain Yeoman), the Hellgrammite (Justice Leak), the Toyman (Henry Czerny), Red Tornado (Iddo Goldberg) and of course Alura Zor-El/Astra (Laura Benanti).

Here's the official synopsis for Supergirl:

Supergirl is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El, Superman’s (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents’ help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex, and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret.
