2016 is upon us, so it is now time to set our minds on the superhero movies and TV shows that this New Year will bring, and it’s fair to say that the superhero news started the year pretty strong. Marvel’s Doctor Strange is definitely the high point of the week for releasing the first official looks at the film, Daredevil follows closely with reveals of Season 2 images, we also got a look at Ben Affleck’s Batcave from Batman v Superman, and plenty more. See what you missed below.

‘Doctor Strange’: First Official Images, and More

Since the casting announcement of Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, we have all been curious as to what the Sorcerer Supreme would look like in the upcoming film, and now Marvel has decided to put speculations to rest with the reveal of the first official image of Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. The reveal comes via an EW cover, where Cumberbatch is in full costume and ready to get mystical in the MCU. Shortly after the initial reveal, a set of new images was released giving us more looks at a spell-casting Cumberbatch and what we can expect from the look of the film.

In other Doctor Strange news, there was also confirmation that actor Mads Mikkelsen is indeed playing the main villain in the film, and though no character name is revealed, he is described as “a sorcerer who breaks off into his own sect”. Rachel McAdams’ role in Doctor Strange has also been surrounded by mystery, but it has now been revealed that she will be playing “a fellow surgeon that has a history with Strange and is his sort of lynchpin to his old life”, but no specific character was named in this case either.

‘Daredevil’ Season 2 Images

Marvel’s Netflix universe is up and running with Daredevil and Jessica Jones, and what we have to look forward to at this point is the return of Daredevil with Season 2. The first teaser trailer did a pretty nice job of getting things started with that Punisher and Elektra tease, but new images were released giving us nicer looks at Elodie Yung and Jon Bernthal as Elektra and Punisher, of which the standout has to be Punisher standing over a chained Daredevil. Later images also offered a look at a suited Charlie Cox as Daredevil.

‘Batman v Superman’: New Image Reveals Batcave

A big part of the Batman character is where he spends his time when he’s not out on the streets fighting crime, meaning the Batcave, and while we have gotten some peeks at Ben Affleck’s Batcave from Batman v Superman in the trailers, it’s nice to get a broad look at where the latest Batman puts on his cape and cowl with the reveal of a new image. The image features a very open, well-light, glass-covered Batcave which I think suits the style of the Batman we will see on screen this year.

‘Deadpool’: New Images Released

It has been a superhero images kind of week and the superhero movie with perhaps the cleverest marketing campaign, Deadpool, couldn’t start this year unnoticed and released new images of its own. From the set of images released, we got a look at what appears to be a promising fight between a katana-wielding Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and an ax-wielding Ajax (Ed Skrein). Other images released feature Colossus (Stefan Kapicic), Angel Dust (Gina Carano), and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) in a New Mutants costume.

‘Wonder Woman’: Set Videos Show Gal Gadot and Chris Pine

Patty JenkinsWonder Woman is currently shooting, and we got a look into the production with the reveal of a couple of set videos. Rumors that recent images confirmed pointed at the film at some point taking place sometime during WWI, and these set videos further support that. Not a lot is going on during the captured shoots, but we do get a small look at Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman.
