Sadly we are getting a little break from superhero movies until Suicide Squad hits theaters in August, but that gives us plenty of time to look ahead and get excited and informed about all of the superhero movies and TV shows that are heading our way in the future. So like every week, we’re here to bring you up to speed with the latest superhero news. This week, The Flash found a new director, Captain Marvel set sights on its lead actress, Suicide Squad released new posters, we got the first image from Legion, and more. Get caught up below.

The Flash’: Rick Famuyiwa in Talks to Direct

There was a little bit of a shakeup recently for The Flash movie when it was announced that it had lost director Seth Grahame-Smith. But any worries appear to be short-lived, because Warner Bros. has found a new director in Rick Famuyiwa. According to reports, Famuyiwa is in talks with the studio to take on directing duties on a film that WB wants to have resonance with young viewers. Famuyiwa would still be working form Grahame-Smith’s script, but no word yet on when filming begins.

‘Captain Marvel’: Brie Larson Eyed to Star, Directing Contenders Revealed

Marvel will see the arrival of its first female-led superhero film with Captain Marvel, and one of the main points of interest and discussion is which actress should get the part. Marvel, apparently, already has their eyes on recent Academy Award winner Brie Larson. Larson is reportedly in early talks with Marvel to land the role of Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers, which would surely bring a lot of attention to the film.

If you’re wondering, “Who would make a good director for Captain Marvel?” Don’t wonder too much, because on that topic there were also a couple of names dropped recently. Recent reports mention filmmakers Jennifer Kent (The Babadook) and Niki Caro (Whale Rider) as possible contenders to helm Captain Marvel, but time will tell who gets the job. If you like one of these directors or think someone else would be a better fit, let your opinion be known by participating in our poll right here.

‘Suicide Squad’: New Posters and UK Promo Released

Like I mentioned earlier, next up on the superhero movie calendar this year is David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, and Warner Bros. wants you to keep your attention on the squad with the release of new posters and a UK promo. The posters continue to follow that wacky and colorful theme, with Task Force X assembled in a couple of them, but Joker (Jared Leto), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), and Deadshot (Will Smith) get the honor of having their own solo posters as well; I think I’ll pick Harley’s as the winner. The UK promo sees the team being introduced as if they were a soccer (football) squad, each given a position of the field and a character description as well.

‘Legion’: First Image Revealed

In what will be the introduction – in a way – of the X-Men universe to television, FX and Marvel will be bringing Legion to the small screen as a limited series early next year, and we got a good sign of things being in motion with the release of the first image from the series. Dan Stevens will start as David Heller, a mentally ill patient who after being diagnosed as schizophrenic has to deal with the possibility of the visions he sees and voices he hears being real. The first image, while not too revealing, does carry hints of the story being described.

While David Heller’s story does traditionally belong in the universe of the X-Men, don’t expect a lot of references or appearances connecting Legion and the X-Men films, Showrunner Noah Hawley was recently asked if Legion takes place within the continuity of the X-Men films, and his response was the following:

“No, it’s not. It’s a little more of a fable in my mind. If you were to say, ‘Where is it, and when is it?,’ it’s not exactly clear, I think. And a lot of it is because he’s not exactly clear. It’s the world as perceived subjectively on some level. The recent X-Men movies, starting with First Class, are rooted in a time period and a world and playing with history in interesting ways. This isn’t doing that.”
