Another week rolls on by and it’s time for us to gather the biggest superhero news in one place so you can stay updated on the latest developments surrounding the superhero properties in movies and TV. It’s tough knowing that we have to wait until November for the next superhero movie (Doctor Strange), but we are getting some heroes on TV as soon as next month (Luke Cage), and a lot of the fun in this whole thing is getting to talk and speculate about developments before we get to see the finished product on the big and small screens. The superhero news of this week includes a Man of Steel sequel being in development, a new Luke Cage trailer, a new logo design for Justice League, who the villain will be in Aquaman, new Doctor Strange images, and more. Get caught up below.

‘Man of Steel’ Sequel in Development at Warner Bros.

In the lineup of movies that makes up what has now become the DCEU there was a noticeable absence in the standalone films, and while Man of Steel was the Launchpad for this entire universe, the Kryptonian was not on the list to receive a sequel to his standalone film, at least not in the near future. Apparently, things have changed over at Warner Bros., since the studio appears to be getting the ball rolling to develop a Man of Steel sequel. According to reports, a sequel to Man of Steel is in the works at Warner Bros., with sources saying the film is a “top priority” for the studio. No further details are known at this point, but reportedly among the main goals for the studio is “getting the character right for audiences”, and while I don’t think Henry Cavill’s Superman is hated by any means, I do feel audiences haven’t been entirely convinced with this version of the character. Among all the questions presented by a Man of Steel sequel is who the director should be, and you can voice your own opinion in our poll right here.

‘Luke Cage’: New Trailer and Poster Released

Marvel’s Luke Cage made some noise at Comic-Con by releasing a teaser for the upcoming series, and not too long after they are keeping the talk going with the release of a new trailer and poster before the series premieres next month. Mike Colter was a standout in Jessica Jones, and this trailer just solidifies why this character deserved his own show. What I liked the most is that we have a bulletproof superhero (as the poster showed us) who could be taking on any imaginable threat, yet we get a compelling smaller scale story about a guy just trying to help his community. This feels like a trailer for a great crime drama, it just happens to have a superhero as the main character, and while Luke Cage breaking bones and throwing bad guys around is great to look at, it seems we are getting much more than that in Luke Cage.

‘Justice League’ Gets New Logo Design

Zack Snyder’s next entry into the DCEU is currently shooting and we are still some time away from its release, but among other details, a logo had already been released for the upcoming Justice League movie. This week that simple black and white logo got a makeover, of the metal kind. A new design for the Justice League logo has been released, making it the official logo for the film, at least for now. The new logo is still essentially the same design as the previous one, but this time the plain white lettering was given a metallic finish, and sure, it’s just a logo, but for a movie that is more than a year away, it’s something to talk about before the juicier material comes later on.

‘Aquaman’ Villain Revealed; Jason Momoa Shows Off Armor in New Image

We are still far away from seeing James Wan’s Aquaman in theaters and close to nothing is known about the film at this point, but it looks like we can add who the villain will be to the list of known details. Jason Momoa’s Aquaman will reportedly be facing off against none other than Black Manta, which shouldn’t be too much of a surprise since the character is Aquaman’s nemesis in the comics. No word on who will play the role of Black Manta, but that detail should emerge later on.

In other Aquaman news, we’ve gotten some looks at Jason Momoa as Aquaman from Batman v Superman and the Justice League trailer, but those haven’t featured the Atlantean in full armor. Well, Zack Snyder decided to give us a peek at Aquaman’s armor by sharing a set image of Momoa in full costume. The image doesn’t completely showcase the armor since Momoa is sideways and holding a guitar, but we are able to see a lot of the detail on the suit, and it is a welcome reveal.

‘Doctor Strange’: New Images and TV Spot

The next time we will see a superhero on the big screen will be this November when Marvel’s Doctor Strange hits theaters, and this week we got more tastes of how Scott Derrickson’s film will look with the release of new images and a TV spot. The images showcase two sides of Stephen Strange’s journey into mysticism, in one image as a mere learner, and in the other as the Sorcerer Supreme. The new TV spot further teases that journey we will follow Benedict Cumberbatch on, and also those world-bending visuals we can’t wait to experience in Doctor Strange.

'Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Adds Michael Chernus as The Tinkerer

Another week, another Spider-Man: Homecoming cast addition, this time with Orange Is the New Black’s Michael Chernus being added to the film. According to reports, Chernus has joined the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming in the role of The Tinkerer, who in the comics is a villain with a particular talent for everything mechanic, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him aiding Michael Keaton’s Vulture with his suit/weapons.

Additionally, this week we also got a close look at Spider-Man (Tom Holland)’s new web-shooters, he had received an upgrade from Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) in Civil War, but apparently, the web-shooters are improved in Spider-Man: Homecoming, either again by Stark or Parker himself.
