The month of October is now over, bringing us closer to the anticipated superhero movies of next year, and this week like many others brought us many updates on the superhero movies we can’t wait to see. For today's edition of "This Week in Superhero News", we have new looks at Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman being shot on film, Pom Klementieff being added to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in a key role, plus more. See what you missed below.

‘Suicide Squad’ Covers and Images

You could say Suicide Squad is being a bit upstaged by the anticipation of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but in no way has this film gone unnoticed leading up to its 2016 release, and all the material from this week proves just that. Empire Magazine released a series of covers giving us a new look at Joker, Enchantress, Harley Quinn and Deadshot, as well as images that feature members like Killer Croc.

Empire also offered new info on the film courtesy of Jared Leto and Will Smith. Leto commented on his approach to the role, “There was definitely a period of…detachment. I took a pretty deep dive. But this was a unique opportunity and I couldn’t imagine doing it another way. It was fun, playing those psychological games. But at the same time it was very painful, like giving birth out of my prick hole.”

Smith spoke about a love triangle between Harley, Deadshot and Joker, “Harley is the biggest troublemaker, but Deadshot’s actually eyeballing her a little bit. There’s a pretty ragged romantic triangle there.”

Director Patty Jenkins' upcoming Wonder Woman may not be hitting theaters until 2017 but audiences are very much looking forward to watch this iconic superheroine take center stage in her own standalone film. Recently, Chris Pine was added to the cast and is said to be playing Wonder Woman’s love interest Steve Trevor. Now Pine has seen fit to confirm his role and add a little info on the production. During an interview, Pine confirmed his role as co-star and added that Jenkins will be shooting on film, “I do not really know what I’m allowed to tell you. I’m super excited, of course, Gal Gadot is super talented, Patty Jenkins will perform, and we will shoot in film … What excites me most is to turn in a movie with a superhero woman.”

A rumor started going around this week that the trailer for Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War would be attached to screenings of Spectre. Even though that will not be the case, you can still be excited because the trailer will arrive soon anyway. We recently corrected the rumor and revealed that the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War will be attached to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which hits theaters on December 17th. Mark your calendars, if you haven't already.

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Will Be a “Buddy Picture”

Hulk appearing in Thor: Ragnarok is a very compelling idea, especially in a film that will apparently involve quite some chaos and destruction, but according to Mark Ruffalo we might see something different from the Thor/Hulk pairing. During an interview, Ruffalo commented that he believes the film will be a “buddy picture with Thor and Bruce Banner”. But don’t be too discouraged, he also added that there will be some fighting involved: “I think they’ll probably fight. There’s no doubt, everyone wants us to fight at one point.”

‘Batman’ Standalone Film Could Focus on the Dark Knight’s Personal Tragedy

If Batman v Superman is any indication, we’re in for a dark take with Ben Affleck’s Batman, and according to the latest rumor the next standalone film from the Dark Knight will also feature a fittingly dark storyline. According to reports, the Batman solo film that may be directed by Affleck and co-written by Geoff Johns might pull from one of Batman’s biggest tragedies, the death of Jason Todd, using 1988’s “A Death in the Family” and 2005’s “Under the Hood” as source for the story.

James Gunn’s sequel to the successful Guardians of the Galaxy is turning wheels to make its 2017 release date, and while little is known about the film at this point we can add a new player to the already returning main cast. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has reportedly added French actress Pom Klementieff in the “key role” of superhero Mantis, a half-Vietnamese half-German that is proficient in martial arts and who in the comics becomes part of both the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
