Summary

From its start in 1988 and through 10 seasons, CBS workplace sitcom Murphy Brown detailed the daily lives of journalists and news anchors while pushing the envelope of political primetime television. Candice Bergen's turn as Murphy presented an acerbic wit which evoked the frustration of Reagan's end into the Bush years. Murphy Brown was that rare sitcom which frequently tangled with the news of the day, rendering its later syndicated repeats somewhat confusing, with years separating the scripts from their cynical interrogations of current events. A later single-season revival in 2018 aired during the Trump presidency.
