Quentin Tarantino was gearing up to make the western The Hateful Eight his next movie, but when the script leaked online, he shut the project down (he's also suing Gawker for leaking the script).  While he's considering publishing a book version, Film Independent has announced that there will at least be a staged live-reading of the script (or presumably the script that was leaked; Tarantino hadn't reached a final draft).  Tarantino is holding the event for Film Independent, "the nonprofit arts organization that produces the Film Independent Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival".  The event will not be recorded or live streamed, but I'm glad Tarantino is at least willing to provide this reading to a live audience.  Additionally, it's for a good cause since "all proceeds go towards supporting the year-round programing efforts of Film Independent at LACMA."

Hit the jump for the press release, which includes the brief synopsis for The Hateful Eight.

Here's the press release.  I've put the synopsis in bold (also, the synopsis sound really exciting, so I'm even more disappointed that Tarantino is putting it aside for the time being).

 FILM INDEPENDENT ANNOUNCES WORLD PREMIERE

OF A STAGED READING OF THE HATEFUL EIGHT

BY QUENTIN TARANTINO

LOS ANGELES, CA (April 3, 2014) — Film Independent, the nonprofit arts organization that produces the Film Independent Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival, has announced today the World Premiere of a Staged Reading of Quentin Tarantino’s unmade script The Hateful Eight. This special, once in a lifetime event, will be held on Thursday, April 24 at LACMA’s Bing Theater. The Hateful Eight is the unproduced Tarantino script that made headlines when he decided to shut down production after the script leaked without his approval. The event will not be recorded or live streamed.

“Quentin Tarantino is a key figure in the independent creative community,” said Josh Welsh, President of Film Independent. “We are thrilled that Quentin will be holding the World Premiere Staged Reading of his script of The Hateful Eight with Film Independent at LACMA. Film Independent supports diversity, innovation and uniqueness of vision with events like the Spirit Awards, the Los Angeles Film Festival, our Filmmaker Labs, as well as our year-round film programing curated by Elvis Mitchell. We offer unique cinematic experiences to the people of Los Angeles, and this event is going to deliver just that.”

The Hateful Eight follows the steadily ratcheting tension that develops after a blizzard diverts a stagecoach from its route, and traps a pitiless and mistrustful group which includes a competing pair of bounty hunters, a renegade Confederate soldier, and a female prisoner in a saloon in the middle of nowhere.

The event will take place at the LACMA Bing Theater on Thursday, April 24 at 8:00 pm. All proceeds go towards supporting the year-round programing efforts of Film Independent at LACMA.
