Paramount Pictures has shifted the release date of director Jonathan Liebesman’s new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film.  Originally scheduled to hit theaters on June 6, 2014, the pic will now bow on August 8, 2014, where it will go head-to-head with the new Dracula film starring Luke Evans and the Helen Mirren-led drama The Hundred-Foot Journey.  The move is apparently to distance the release of Ninja Turtles—which will enjoy a heavy merchandising push—from Paramount’s other big toy franchise, Transformers.  Director Michael Bay’s Transformers 4 is currently scheduled to open in theaters on June 27th, but Deadline notes that this will probably be moved back to June 25th because the Transformers films have traditionally opened on a Wednesday.  As such, the studio wants to spread out its presumably toy-heavy releases.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stars Megan Fox, Will Arnett, and William Fichtner, with Alan RitchsonPete PloszekJeremy Howard, and Noel Fisher playing the CG turtles and Danny Woodburn portraying Splinter.
