It's September, and that means festival season is about to start. We're coming up on the beginning of the Toronto Film Festival, the sprawling mack daddy of the North American film festival circuit, and both New York Film Festival and Telluride Film Festival will kick off around the same time. While one simply cannot fathom how many films there are to see at TIFF, NYFF and TFF come with a more selective set of movies and the announcement of the latter's lineup today suggests that the festivals' programmers are quite like-minded.

Like New York Film Festival, Telluride will feature screenings of Sundance fav Manchester by the Sea, Cannes breakout Toni Erdmann, Errol Morris' The B-Side: Elsa Dorfman's Portrait, Barry Jenkins' Moonlight, Pablo Larrain's Neruda, Gianfranco Rosi's devastating Fire at Sea, and Mia Hansen-Løve's exquisite Things to Come. There will also be screenings of Damien Chazelle's much-hyped Whiplash follow-up, La La Land, Denis Villeneuve's moody alien-encounter epic Arrival, and Clint Eastwood's Sully. And there's plenty more to see, as you can tell from the promising full lineup that you can take a look at below, many of which will be in high contention when the "Best Films of 2016" conversation begins later this year.
