We got a new look at Arnold Schwarzenegger as a grey-haired Terminator yesterday in new Terminator: Genisys images, and a few more photos from director Alan Taylor’s upcoming sequelboot have arrived, along with a bit more info on the circumstances of Schwarzenegger’s return. We know that Genisys treads some of the same territory as The Terminator and T2, as Jai Courtney’s Kyle Reese is sent back in time by the adult John Connor (Jason Clarke) in order to prevent his mother (Emilia Clarke) from being murdered. But when he arrives in 1983, things are very, very different, as Sarah Connor is already a hardened woman, palling around with a Terminator sidekick played by Schwarzenegger.

Speaking with Empire, The Governator spoke a bit about the nature of his reprisal:

“The story has changed, so I am like a combination of the characters who you have seen in the past. He is a powerful and potentially evil kind of machine that can be very destructive if I see that a there is danger from me or for the victory against the machines. I can switch over to being the protector of Sarah Connor. It depends where we are in this storyline.”

It’ll be interesting to see if Schwarzenegger is only playing this new “protector” Terminator, or if he’ll get in on the action as an adversary as well. We’ll find out soon enough when Terminator: Genisys opens in theaters on July 1st.
