I am not happy that Deadline is reporting that writer-director Terrence Malick is planning to shoot a new film this fall.  All my jokes about Malick are based on the fact that he takes long hiatuses in between making his movies, but now he's already gone and cast Christian Bale, Javier Bardem, Rachel McAdams, and Olga Kurylenko in this untitled picture.  All we know about the movie is that it's a love story.  This will be a huge acting challenge for Bale since being grim and gritty doesn't really coincide with that kind of movie.  If his character is in love with dour intensity, I can buy that.

Malick's most recent film, Tree of Life starring Sean Penn and Brad Pitt, is set to finally hit theaters this year.  But Malick hasn't only picked up steam with this new love story picture he's working on, but he recently showed interest in developing a film based on David Rhode's New York Times six-part series Held by the Taliban, a project that Hurt Locker director and Oscar-nominee Kathryn Bigelow also wants to make.  If Malick is now set to make this other film, does that mean Bigelow has emerged victorious?  Perhaps, but for right now, I shall have to find another way to poke fun at Malick.  Or I could just appreciate his work like everyone else.
