New THE BABADOOK Trailer and Images Deliver the Scares without the Spoilers

     August 15, 2014

Icon has released a new The Babadook trailer online, and it’s worth watching so you can put this frightening film on your radar.  The story focuses on a single mother who reads a children’s book called “Mister Babadook” to her young child, and unintentionally conjures the eponymous monster, which begins to terrorize the household.  When I went to see the movie at Sundance, I knew absolutely nothing about it.  I didn’t even know it was a horror film.  I knew it had a funny name, and that was it.  The movie then proceeded to scare the hell out of me for 93 minutes.  Writer-director Jennifer Kent has crafted what is easily one of the best horror films of the year.

Hit the jump to check out the new The Babadook trailer along with some new images.  The movie will open in the U.K. on October 24th, and in the U.S. in theaters and VOD on November 28th.  As a side-note, I like how at the end of the trailer, you’re encouraged to go to the official website and “Read the Book”.  You know, the thing that SUMMONS THE MONSTER.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Babadook:

Six years after the violent death of her husband, Amelia (Essie Davis) is at a loss. She struggles to discipline her ‘out of control’ 6 year-old, Samuel (Noah Wiseman), a son she finds impossible to love. Samuel’s dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill them both. When a disturbing storybook called ‘The Babadook’ turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature he’s been dreaming about. His hallucinations spiral out of control, he becomes more unpredictable and violent. Amelia, genuinely frightened by her son’s behaviour, is forced to medicate him. But when Amelia begins to see glimpses of a sinister presence all around her, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may be real.
