Ahead of its Cannes Film Festival premiere, the first clip from Atom Egoyan's The Captive has gone online along with new images.  The story follows how "a kidnapping destroys the relationships among those involved. As the film teases out the complex threads weaving together the victim, her family, the predators and the investigators, the mystery is revealed as to what happened to the child during the eight years she was missing."  I hated Egoyan's previous movie, Devil's Knot, but he's still an immensely talented filmmaker, and it sounds like he's working from much stronger material rather than making a poor imitation of better movies.

Hit the jump to check out The Captive clip and images.  The film stars Ryan ReynoldsMireille EnosScott Speedman, Rosario Dawson, Kevin Durand, Alexia Fast, and Bruce Greenwood.

Here's the synopsis for The Captive:

A pick up truck pulls off the highway at a diner. Confident that his young daughter is safe in the back seat and promising to return with ice cream, the father slips out of his truck and into the diner. When he returns, she is gone.

The Captive examines how this kidnapping destroys the relationships among those involved. As the film teases out the complex threads weaving together the victim, her family, the predators and the investigators, the mystery is revealed as to what happened to the child during the eight years she was missing.
