After giving us plenty of reasons to speculate about what is about to go down on Season 4 of hit reality series The Circle, Netflix released a video so we can get to know the next batch of contestants a little bit better. Of course, we’ll only truly know and love them when the time comes to play the game, but for now it’s good to have a general idea and start getting a feel of who we might root for. In the competition, contestants are locked inside separate apartments and can only communicate through a social network called The Circle. Whether you interact as yourself or with a fake (or “catfish”) profile, the mission is to become popular and be voted "top influencer" in order to earn the cash prize.

With the video, Netflix introduces the nine initial participants of Season 4. Additional contestants are only revealed as the season rolls out, because they come forward as substitutes when a player is eliminated (or “blocked”) from the competition. Right off the bat we have two catfish – people whose strategy is to pose as someone else throughout the game. And both are playing the opposite sex: comedian Tiktoker John will catfish as “Carol”, and LA girl Parker will embody “Paul”.

It’s safe to assume that contestant Alyssa will fire up the Circle chat, as she’s a sex and relationship coach and speaks openly about it. In the trailer, we saw that Alyssa shocked other contestants by saying she had a vulva pillow – and she really does! Alex and Frank might be great communicators, since one is a co-host on a podcast and the other is a therapist. Yu Ling and Rachel already have a pretty big fanbase going in: Yu Ling has 17k followers on Instagram and Rachel has 31.5k. Only Rachel can say she's a ghost buster, though.

The undisputable top influencers in the group are “Bru” and Crissa: He is a radio host with 255k followers, and has been to Vanity Fair parties and hosted the red carpet premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Crissa is a motivational speaker with 1 million followers who has played for none other than the basketball team Harlem Globetrotters – the thirteenth woman to do so. Will they be able to maintain their popularity inside the Circle? Or will they be voted out early and prove that The Circle is anyone’s game?

The presentation video stays mum on the Spice Girls' participation that Netflix has been teasing for a while. On the trailer for Season 4, which was revealed yesterday, the pop stars’ presence in this season was heavily implied, but we’ll have to wait until the new season premieres to know exactly what will go down with those mysterious participants.

The Circle became extremely popular and relatable at the height of the pandemic, as it had contestants locked inside an apartment, talking to each other through social media. The U.S. version is hosted by Michelle Buteau, and the competition has had Brazilian and French versions. The cash prize for Season 4 was upped to $150,000, the highest in the series so far.

Netflix premieres Season 4 of The Circle on May 4, with four episodes. The streamer will drop additional batches of four episodes on the following weeks. On May 25, the final episode will be released and the winner of the season will be crowned. You can meet the new players in the video below:
