Sony Pictures has released the first images from The Equalizer.  The movie is based off the 1980s TV series, and stars Denzel Washington as a former covert operations officer who dedicates his life to helping people in trouble.  However, Washington says it wasn't the original series that drew him to the project; it was the material.  "It's a classic story, the innocent girl and the guy coming in to save the day and kick some butt," Washington tells USA Today.  "You'll get some popcorn and escape for a couple of hours."  Washington seems to enjoy making these kinds of movies since five of his last six films have had action elements.  The Equalizer could turn into a franchise for Washington since a sequel is already in the works.  But Washington remains cautious saying, "You can't make No. 2 before you make No. 1. It's called show business. We've handled the show part of it. We'll see how the business part goes."

Here's the official synopsis for The Equalizer:

In The Equalizer, Denzel Washington plays McCall, a former black ops commando who has faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston.  When he comes out of his self-imposed retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), he finds himself face to face with ultra-violent Russian gangsters. As he serves vengeance against those who brutalize the helpless, McCall’s desire for justice is reawakened. If someone has a problem, the odds are stacked against them, and they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help.  He is The Equalizer.
