Sony Pictures has released the full-length The Equalizer trailer for director Antoine Fuqua’s (Olympus Has Fallen) adaptation of the 1980s TV series of the same name.  Denzel Washington leads the dramatic action-thriller as a former black ops commando who comes out of his self-imposed retirement to rescue a young girl (Chloe Grace Moretz).  Soon thereafter, things go south and he finds himself squaring off against violent Russian gangsters.  The film finds Washington reuniting with his Training Day director in Fuqua, and while it’s certainly a “badass” role, I’m encouraged by how introspective the whole thing feels.  Hopefully Fuqua and Washington are able to dig a bit deeper while also delivering the action thrills that audiences expect.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Equalizer:

In The Equalizer, Denzel Washington plays McCall, a former black ops commando who has faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston.  When he comes out of his self-imposed retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), he finds himself face to face with ultra-violent Russian gangsters. As he serves vengeance against those who brutalize the helpless, McCall’s desire for justice is reawakened. If someone has a problem, the odds are stacked against them, and they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help.  He is The Equalizer.
