‘The Flash’ and ‘Arrow’ Crossover Synopses Lay the Groundwork for ‘Legends of Tomorrow’

     November 16, 2015

We’re inching ever closer to the long-awaited second crossover event between The Flash and Arrow, and The CW is slowly doling out the details. Last week we got a first look image packed with seven superheroes suited up and ready for action, and now we’ve got another preview image along with the official episode synopses for both installments in the crossover. While the crossover episodes are primarily constructed around Team Arrow and Team Flash (and Teddy Sears getting back in the action too!), it’s clear that they’re designed to make huge strides in setting up the massive-scale, time-traveling ensemble spinoff series, Legends of Tomorrow. Check out the new image (via TVInsider) and the crossover synopsis below.

The first, Flash-centric episode of the crossover event, titled “Legends of Today” will air on Tuesday, December 1st. Here’s the official synopsis.

“In its second major crossover event with “Arrow,” Vandal Savage (guest star Casper Crump) arrives in Central City and sets his sights on Kendra Saunders (guest star Ciara Renée). After Vandal attacks Kendra and Cisco, they turn to Barry for help. Realizing how dangerous Vandal is, Barry takes Kendra to Star City and asks Oliver and team to hide her until he can figure out how to stop Vandal. However, things quickly go from bad to worse when a man with wings AKA Hawkman (guest star Falk Hentschel) shows up and flies off with Kendra. Meanwhile, Harrison develops a serum to make Barry run faster and asks Jay (guest star Teddy Sears) to test it out.”

Titled “Legends of Yesterday”, the Arrow portion (though it’s been made very clear that this year’s crossover is a two-part event, making each episode mandatory viewing) will wrap up the action the following night on Wednesday, December 2nd. Here’s the official synopsis.

“Oliver and Barry Allen take Kendra Saunders and Carter Hall to a remote location to keep them hidden from Vandal Savage while they figure out how to defeat him. Malcolm arranges a meeting between Vandal, Green Arrow and The Flash that doesn’t go as planned. Meanwhile, Felicity, Thea, Diggle and Laurel work with Team Flash to come up with a weapon powerful enough to destroy Vandal Savage.”

As you can see, The Flash and Arrow crossover event is taking major strides in setting up the epic spinoff series Legends of Tomorrow, which will see popular characters from both shows team up to take down a powerful evil. That evil is none other than Vandal Savage, the villain at the center of the new crossover event and the immortal time-traveller introduced in the first Legends of Tomorrow trailer as the man who “commands the most powerful army the world has ever seen.” Yikes.

Both series have been doing their own work this season to build the characters that will populate the new series. On Arrow we’ve seen the circumstances behind the return of Sarah Lance and Ray Palmer while on The Flash we’ve met Kendra Saunders (aka Hawkgirl) and the new Firestorm, Jax Jefferson. Most impressively, both shows have been laying the groundwork for Legends of Tomorrow in a way that blends pretty seamlessly in the narrative of the home series. No doubt, the crossover episodes will continue that trend.
