Here’s more news from the still-unnamed The Flash-Arrow spin-off, which will feature a gaggle of super heroes that somehow (SOMEHOW!) have not yet been involved in the already over-stuffed DC universe. Deadline reports that Arthur Darvill, the young British actor who many may know from his recent work on Doctor Who, is set to portray time-traveling lumberjack-type Rip Hunter in the series, which will be helmed by Arrow creators Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Marc Guggenheim. Of course, its unclear if the Hunter of this narrative will be the bearded juggernaut that appears in the DC pages, or if his costume will be anything like the gloriously ridiculous red-and-green suit that the time explorer dons in the comics.

The announcement of Darvill’s inclusion in the show comes on the heels of Ciara Renée being cast as Hawkgirl. Both of these characters join Brandon Routh’s The Atom, Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold, Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell), and Victor Garber’s Dr. Stein, all of whom have already made appearances on The Flash or Arrow. Caity Lotz, who portrayed the first Black Canary on Arrow, has also been cast in the series, which will likely premiere during the next midseason, but her character has yet to be revealed. As for Darvill, he’s currently appearing in London’s National Theater’s production of Treasure Island, wherein he plays the role of Long John Silver. The young actor also recently finished a stint on ITV’s hugely underrated Broadchurch, playing Paul Coates, the put-upon reverend of the titular town who becomes involved in a local murder investigation.
