Sean Penn and Javier Bardem Are Frenemies in First THE GUNMAN Trailer

     December 11, 2014

Open Road Films has released the first The Gunman trailer for the upcoming action-thriller, based on the novel of the same name.  The film stars Sean Penn as a hitman who attempts to leave his job behind for the woman he loves, only to find that the actuality of giving up the professional killing game is much harder than expected.  If you get a strong Taken vibe from this trailer, that’s probably because the film is directed by Taken helmer Pierre Morel.  The cast is certainly impressive, with Javier Bardem giving a slightly over-the-top performance as Penn’s friend-turned-enemy, but it’s tough to shake the feeling that we’ve seen this before and The Gunman isn’t bringing anything new to the table.  On account of the ensemble, though, I’m willing to at least give this one a shot.

Check out the first The Gunman trailer after the jump.  The film also stars Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, Jasmine Trinca, and Mark RylanceThe Gunman opens in theaters on March 20, 2015.
