Comic-Con 2012 is now less than a week away, and we can rest assured knowing that plenty of geek-related goodness is sure to follow all throughout next week and weekend.  Two of the most highly anticipated panels come via Warner Bros.’ three-hour block next Saturday: Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit and Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim.  It’s a curious pairing, as del Toro was previously set to direct The Hobbit before bowing out due to increasing delays (he's still credited as a screenwriter on the two-part adaptation).  One assumes there’s no bad blood between the two visionary directors, and now a pair of absolutely gorgeous Comic-Con posters for their films have landed online. We’ve previously seen posters for The Hobbit, but that doesn’t mean this Gandalf-enhanced one sheet isn’t any less exciting.  This is the first poster we’ve seen for del Toro’s Pacific Rim, and it promises that this is one big movie.  Hit the jump to check out the posters (which will be available to fans at Comic-Con), and be sure to come back next week for our extensive Comic-Con coverage including full recaps of these two highly anticipated panels.  Comic-Con 2012 runs from July 12 – 15th.Poster via the film’s Facebook page.the-hobbit-comic-con-posterHere’s the synopsis for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey:

“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever… Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities… A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

Here’s the synopsis for Pacific Rim:

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end.  To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge.  But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju.  On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past.  Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
