THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 2 Trailer Completes the Revolution

     June 9, 2015

Just days after the final scene was shot, Lionsgate has released the first The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 trailer for director Francis Lawrence‘s final installment of the franchise. In the conclusion, Panem has gone to war, and Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and President Snow (Donald Sutherland) have come to their final confrontation.

As this is just a teaser trailer it doesn’t reveal too much, but it’s clear that Francis Lawrence is closing out this franchise with an honest-to-goodness war picture. We see glimpses of the rebels preparing for battle, as well as the descent upon the Capitol and even a look at Gwendoline Christie‘s character, and it all looks fantastic.

I’ve been incredibly impressed with how this series has turned out thus far. Gary Ross kicked things off with a thoughtful and visceral first picture, and Lawrence picked up the baton and continued to explore serious and weighty themes in the subsequent sequels. This is genuinely one of the best sci-fi franchises ever made, and all involved have earned our trust that they’ll be closing this thing out with a resounding bang.

Check out the new The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 trailer below. The film also stars Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Willow Shields, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Stanley Tucci, and Julianne Moore.  For more on the film, click here.

And here’s the official synopsis for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2:

With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss confronts President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the final showdown. Teamed with a group of her closest friends – including Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Finnick (Sam Claflin), and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) – Katniss goes off on a mission with the unit from District 13 as they risk their lives to stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who has become increasingly obsessed with destroying her.  The mortal traps, enemies, and moral choices that await Katniss will challenge her more than any arena she faced in The Hunger Games.
