Warner Bros. has released a new The Judge image from director David Dobkin’s (Wedding Crashers) upcoming thriller/family drama.  Robert Downey Jr. plays an attorney who returns home for his mother’s funeral only to learn that his estranged father (Robert Duvall), a judge who suffers from Alzheimer’s, has been accused of murder.  The film marks a departure for Dobkin, who has worked primarily with comedic material like The Change-Up and Fred Claus in the past.  Moreover, the pic marks the first project for the Team Downey production shingle from Downey Jr. and his wife/producing partner Susan Downey.  I’ll be interested to see exactly what kind of tone The Judge strikes, and I imagine we’ll be seeing a debut trailer sooner rather than later.  For now, this image finds Downey Jr. and Duvall looking mighty serious.

Hit the jump to check out the new The Judge image.  The film also stars Vera Farmiga, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jeremy Strong, Billy Bob Thornton, Dax Shepard, Melissa Leo, Leighton Meester, Ken Howard, David Krumholtz, Balthazar Getty, and Denis O’HareThe Judge opens in theaters on October 10th.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Judge:

Hank Palmer (Robert Downey Jr.) returns to his childhood home where his estranged father, the town’s judge (Robert Duvall), is suspected of murder.  He sets out to discover the truth and along the way reconnects with the family he walked away from years before.
