It’s been nearly five years since The LEGO Movie introduced the world to the irresistible earworm “Everything Is Awesome”, and the sequel The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part aims to introduce another, even catchier song to audiences. The follow-up takes place five years after the events of the first movie as DUPLO invaders from outer space wreak havoc on Emmet, Lucy, Batman and the gang’s world. It’s up to them to save it, but no doubt plenty of twists and turns are in store thanks to the screenplay by Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

As the movie’s release date looms closer, Warner Bros. has released a new featurette for a new original song called, appropriately enough, “Catchy Song.” The song is also available for download and streaming, which reveals it features T-Pain and That Girl Lay Lay. You can hear a snippet of it in the video below, along with footage of the film’s voice actors like Chris Pratt and Alison Brie lamenting the catchiness of the tune.

I’m really excited to see what The LEGO Movie 2 has in store for audiences. The sequel went through a pretty lengthy and evolving development, with a couple of directors coming and going and a number of screenwriters taking a crack at the script. The finished screenplay is credited to Lord and Miller only, which tells me that the LEGO Movie writers/directors were heavily involved in crafting the finished story that will be making its way to screens next month.

Here’s the official synopsis for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part:

The much-anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed, global box office phenomenon that started it all, “The LEGO® Movie 2: The Second Part,” reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all new action-packed adventure to save their beloved city. It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat: LEGO DUPLO® invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild. The battle to defeat them and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are. Reprising their starring roles from the first film are Chris Pratt as Emmet, Elizabeth Banks as Lucy (aka Wyldstyle), Will Arnett as LEGO BatmanTM, Nick Offerman as Metal Beard, and Alison Brie as Unikitty. They are joined by Tiffany Haddish, Stephanie Beatriz, and Arturo Castro as, respectively, new characters Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi, Sweet Mayhem and Ice Cream Cone.
