We’ve got the Ninjago movie arriving on September 23, 2016, LEGO Batman due on May 26, 2017 and The LEGO Movie sequel, now officially titled The LEGO Movie Sequel, heading towards a 2018 release, but that’s not it. Merlin Entertainments just announced that there’s also a 4D animated film based on The LEGO Movie in the works for 6 LEGOLAND Parks and 11 LEGOLAND Discovery Centers.
According to the press release, the experience will involve elements like wind, water, smoke and special lighting effects to enhance the film which will see “Emmet and Wyldstyle back together with their friends for another awesome adventure.”
Here’s what Merlin Entertainments Chief Executive Officer Nick Varney had to say about the project:
“We’re excited to be partnering with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and The LEGO Group on such a, dare I say, awesome, adventure. Emmet and Wyldstyle have become immensely popular at our theme parks and Discovery Centers across the globe and bringing this new 4D movie exclusively to our guests continues our Merlin philosophy of creating memorable family experiences.”
Jill Wilfert, Vice President of Licensing and Entertainment for the LEGO Group, also added the following:
“More than a film, The LEGO Movie became an anthem for creative building, inspiring families around the world to pull their LEGO collections out and piece together their imaginations. I know that LEGOLAND guests are going to love seeing these characters in a fun, new adventure.”
This new 4D film will be ready for parks and Discovery Centers in North America, Asia and Europe later this year, but there’s no word on whether or not Phil Lord, Chris Miller and the rest of the LEGO Movie team will have any say in it. Michael Bay was part of the development process for Transformers: The Ride, so hopefully Warner Bros. Consumer Products and The LEGO Group will get the duo’s thoughts/approval before locking anything in.
