The new trailer for Ridley Scott's hugely anticipated The Martian is here. The movie stars Matt Damon as an astronaut stranded on the Red Planet who is forced to fashion a makeshift return vessel to get back to Earth. 20th Century Fox delivered a solid first trailer for the film back in June, but this new one rocks a stronger build and offers up a much clearer sense of the tone of the film, better supporting the humor and quips. At this point, the only thing that still concerns me is that the marketing campaign might be giving away too much information. I've never read the Andy Weir novel the movie's based on so for all I know, there's much more to it, but it certainly feels like there's a significant amount of story crammed into this three-minute promo.

Check out the new The Martian trailer for yourself below. The film will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and then hit theaters nationwide on October 2nd. The movie also stars Jessica ChastainKristen WiigKate MaraMichael PenaJeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Donald Glover.

Here's the official synopsis from 20th Century Fox:

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring "the Martian" home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney's safe return. Based on a best-selling novel.
