Get ready for more government-sanctioned murder.  The Purge 3 release date has been officially set for July 1, 2016, confirming that the popular horror franchise will indeed return to the Fourth of July holiday.  That release date sets the pic opposite Warner Bros.’ big Tarzan adaptation as well as Steven Spielberg’s family friendly The BFG, offering up a trio of diverse films for the pre-Fourth of July weekend—which may or may not become the regular home of the Purge franchise.  More on The Purge 3 after the jump.

When The Purge 3 was first formally announced, we knew that James DeMonaco was returning to write the film but he wasn’t yet set to direct.  It’s still unclear who will be helming The Purge 3, but when Perri caught up with The Purge: Anarchy actor Michael K. Williams recently, he hinted that he and Frank Grillo may or may not have something to do with a Purge 3.

I’ve yet to see any of these movies but I think the premise is inherently kind of brilliant, and it obviously lends itself quite well to the franchise format.  If Grillo and Williams were to return for the sequel, what would you like to see the story entail?  Sound off in the comments section below.
