While receiving positive reactions to the recently released trailer for his upcoming film The Raid 2: Berandal, writer-director Gareth Evans took to Twitter to further comment on the action-packed sequel.  In addition to talking about the film’s timeline and where it and The Raid 3 take place in the series, Evans revealed some of the statistics behind the scenes of the epic action sequences and the progress of the VFX process.  Evans even mentioned, briefly, some of the content that will be available on the eventual Blu-ray/DVD.

Starring Iko Uwais (The Raid), Julie Estelle (Macabre), Alex Abbad (Merantau), Marsha Timothy (The Forbidden Door), Mathias MuchusTio Pakusadewo, and Cecep Arif RahmanThe Raid 2: Berandal opens March 28, 2014.  Hit the jump to see what Evans had to say.

gareth-evans-the-raid-2Evans first addressed the trailer for The Raid 2: Berandal and just how much of the final film was revealed within it:

Gareth Evans ‏@ghuwevans trailer is 2m 35s and with the exception of 1 shot it’s all new footage from the teaser. Only spoilers for Act 1 setup.
Naturally, there’s a ton of stuff we have kept hidden from the trailer. About 4/5 action scenes don’t feature at all.
Also wanted to put less emphasis on the brutality – this is the closest I could get to a green band version.
the final shot is a tease – that fight I still get goosebumps watching it. Iko and Cecep gave everything they had for it.

He also talked about the placement of the sequel and the eventual third film in The Raid series:

The Raid 2 takes place 2hrs after the first, The Raid 3 would start 2hrs before The Raid 2 ends.

The theatrical release is still a few months away, but the film will be playing at Sundance, so Evans is still hard at work on the VFX:

We spent 1.5months just designing the final fight. That’s the most complex we have done so far. Another 3-4 weeks on pre vis
Still a lot of work to do. New Years VFX
Happy New Year from me and the VFX team! At least we can hear the fireworks 🙂

Check out Evans’ Twitter account for more updates, like this recent comment on the eventual bonus features on The Raid 2: Berandal Blu-ray/DVD:

We had a 3min 45s steadicam scene in a club but we cut it for pacing reasons. All deleted scenes will be on blu Ray / DVD.

yeah I’ll do a commentary track, hopefully this one will be more interesting.
