It’s time for another shortlist story as apparently every actress in Hollywood is looking to star opposite Johnny Depp in the remake of The Thin Man. Chicago and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides director Rob Marshall is onboard to helm the adaptation of Dashiell Hammett’s novel, which itself was turned into a 1934 feature film. The story centers on private detective-turned-socialite Nick Charles and his charming wife Nora as they’re drawn into investigating a murder. Depp is, obviously, set to play the dashing detective, and now Marshall is set to meet with a slew of actresses to cast the lovely Nora. Hit the jump to find out who’s up for the gig.

Per Deadline, the actresses interested in taking the part are: Carey Mulligan, Emma Stone, Kristen Wiig, Emily Blunt, Rachel Weisz, Eva Green, Amy Adams, and Isla Fisher. It’s quite an eclectic group of talented ladies, but there’s obviously a leaning towards those that have at least some degree of comedic chops. Out of this batch, I’m partial to Stone, Wiig and Blunt. Mulligan is unendingly talented, but her comedic talents haven’t exactly been extensively on display before. That’s not to say she doesn’t have any, but she’s not the first actress that comes to mind for a witty detective story.

I think Stone, Wiiig and Blunt are all swell, so I’d be happy if any of those actresses nabbed the part. Stone is fantastic in literally everything she does, but she may be a bit too young to play wife to the 48-year-old Depp. If I had to choose one, my pick would probably be Blunt. She’s gorgeous, ridiculously charming, and has a strong yet charming persona that would pair well with Depp. Furthermore, she’s really funny. None of the aforementioned actresses have officially entered talks, so at this point this is simply a list of people interested in the role. It’s quite possible that Marshall could go with someone else for the part entirely, but I’m personally hoping it’s Blunt, Wiig or Stone.
