It looks like Peter Serafinowicz is trading in his Guardians of the Galaxy Nova suit for The Tick’s blue superhero duds in a new Amazon pilot. Today, we're getting a more detailed look at this reboot series in a batch of new photos featuring, among other things, Jackie Earl Jones as The Terror.
Armin Shimerman played the villain in the live-action Tick series from the early ‘00s, but the character gets a new look that’s sort of Ronan the Accuser meets Dracula meets Metallica. In this world of the The Tick, superheroes have been real for decades and a non-heroic accountant discovers the city is owned by a notorious supervillain thought to have been dead.
Elsewhere among the images, we get a proper look at the new Tick suit, as well as Griffin Newman as said accountant, Brendan Hines as Superion during an interview with Whoopi Goldberg on a talk show, Yara Martinez as Ms. Lint, and Berto Colo as one of her henchmen cohorts.
In a statement accompanying a press release, creator and executive producer Ben Edlund emphasized that this is an entirely new look and feel for The Tick:
This has been a labor of love for Amazon, Sony, and all of us. The only way for this to have value was if we found a wholly new expression of The Tick and Arthur's story in live-action, and I think we're on to something! Visually and thematically this new Tick lives in the textures and rhetoric of today's superhero saturation tsunami -- and for it to be something you want to watch for hours, it needed to find its way to a story with heart and stakes, as well as absurdism. Is it a radically new hybrid of humor and super heroic action with characters you will care desperately about? YES! Yes it is.
The Tick is one of Amazon’s new half-hour pilots and will become available to stream August 19th. Check out the photos below:
