After Sunday night’s episode of The Walking Dead, things are not looking so good for Rick and his group, but the biggest blow is still to come when the most notorious character of the universe makes his debut on the finale. Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan will portray Negan, whose name we’ve been hearing throughout the season, and fans can get the first glimpse of him in the latest promos for next Sunday’s episode.

Though the footage only shows his back and his signature weapon, a baseball bat wrapped with barbed wire, he’s still pretty chilling. Plus, the scrawling message reads “the price will be paid” pretty much confirms someone is not going to be walking out of the finale alive. Watch the promo below.

Without potentially spoiling anything for non-comic book fans, one of the biggest moments of the entire series comes when Negan takes the life of a major character. In AMC’s version, the cast and crew have been teasing an equally devastating moment. Robert Kirkman called his introduction “intense, heartbreaking, and shocking,” while Andrew Lincoln said, “I felt sick to my stomach when I read the script.

Kirkman went into further detail on AMC’s iteration of the character to Entertainment Weekly:

Negan is kind. Negan is respectful. Negan is psychotic. Negan is ruthless. This is a very nuanced character that has a lot of different shades to him. There’s a lot of honor to him. There’s a rule system in place. I think he’s unlike anything anybody’s experienced in The Walking Dead thus far. He’s definitely a different kind of bad guy. He’s sadistic and dangerous and all those things that you would expect from a Governor, but he’s much more in control. He’s much less sporadic and he has much less of a temper. This is not a guy who’s going to lose control and start shooting his own people the way the Governor did.

Remember, The Walking Dead season finale on April 3 will be extended to 90 minutes so we’ll have plenty of time with the new man of our nightmares.
