Even if you don’t like Game of Thrones, it was hard to hate Leslie Jones’ uproarious recap of “The Battle of the Bastards” episode from last season or Funny or Die’s always hysterical Gay of Thrones videos. Now, The Walking Dead has its own comedy legend to spark a newfound love for the zombie drama: Ahead of the show’s season 7 premiere, the folks at Now TV enlisted John Cleese to recap the events that’ve transpired in under four minutes.

Cleese recaps seasons 1-6 the only way Cleese knows how to recap, while offering the rules of The Walking Dead: “zombies are not called zombies,” “there are no safe places,” “never look at the flowers,” and, lastly, “stop forgetting lesson 2.” It’s not a detailed account of everything that’s happened — it is, again, under four minutes — but the video whittles down the seasons to its core moments (i.e. the characters encounter murder and mayhem everywhere they roam).

Watch the video recap below:

Perhaps it’s an oversimplification of the matter, and it’s a little slow-moving, but you get the gist. Plus, it’s fun to hear Cleese’s nicknames for the characters — especially Patchy Pete (a.k.a. The Governor) — and his one-star Trip Advisor rating of Woodbury. By the sound of it, it doesn’t seem like Cleese has been keeping tabs on all the happenings of this post-apocalyptic world.

Now with season 7 premiering this weekend, we’ll get to see the new villain and perhaps another sanctuary that turns out to be anything but. The long anticipated answer to “Who does Negan kill?” will finally be answered, even as the cast and crew continue to ramp up the devastation factor in various interviews.

The Walking Dead Season 7 kicks off in the highly anticipated season premiere this Sunday night, October 23rd at 9 p.m. on AMC.
