Logan Fights on Top of a Train in First Clip from THE WOLVERINE

     July 8, 2013

20th Century Fox has released the first clip from director James Mangold’s upcoming film The Wolverine.  Rather than teasing a small-scale fist fight or a dialogue sequence, Fox has unveiled a snippet of one of the film’s major action sequences: the bullet train fight.  While the initial peek at the set piece in the early trailers showed some spotty visual effects, this finished version looks great and is rather intense.  I really like what we’ve seen of Mangold’s handle on the fight sequences thus far, and I’m eager to see this visceral style put to good use in the full film.

Hit the jump to watch the extended clip.  The film stars Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, Svetlana Khodchenkova, and Tao Okamoto.  The Wolverine opens in 3D on July 26th.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Wolverine:

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.
