Marvel has released a new trailer for director Alan Taylor’s sequel, Thor: The Dark World.  The film finds Chris Hemsworth’s Thor squaring off against the villainous dark elf Malekith the Accursed (Christopher Eccleston).  The trailer is a shorter, rearranged version of what was shown at Comic-Con, and it leaves me cold.  There's plenty of destruction and ominous warnings, but only at the very end do you see any emphasis on the title character.  It almost seems like Marvel has given up on their hero, and realized that they should sell it on Loki (Tom Hiddleston) since he's the more popular character.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film also stars Natalie Portman, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo, and Anthony Hopkins.  Thor: The Dark World opens in 3D on November 8th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Thor: The Dark World:

Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s Thor and Marvel’s The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
