Quite the action team-up is taking place for the upcoming film Heatseekers.  A couple of years ago, we reported that Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes studio had acquired a spec script called Heatseekers for Paramount Pictures.  The story centered on aerial “pirates” and was likened to Fast & Furious and Point Break.  Now word comes that that Wanted and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter helmer Timur Bekmambetov has come aboard the action project to direct, with Bay maintaining his producer role.  Hit the jump for more details.Per Heat Vision, Bekmambetov has signed on to direct Heatseekers with screenwriter F. Scott Frazer set to rewrite George Mahaffey’s spec script.  Plot details are under wraps, but our previous description of the plot read thusly: “the story follows a young ex-military pilot who infiltrates a gang of aerial pirates working out of Bangkok and takes part in an elaborate tower heist using powered gliders and parachutes.”Bay will produce alongside Platinum Dunes partners Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, and Fast & Furious scribe Chris Morgan has also signed on as a producer.  Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter was a critical and commercial disappointment, so I was curious as to what type of project the Wanted filmmaker would tackle next.  It appears that he’s keen to stick with visually-geared action projects, but if Frazer turns in a good script then Heatseekers could be pretty fun.  Bekmambetov is also attached to helm the Thomas Edison film The Current War, though it sounds like Heatseekers might now be his priority.
