We have a couple of quick casting stories to report this morning. First up, THR reports that Tom Everett Scott has joined the family comedy Us & Them. Billy Crystal and Bette Midler will play “old school grandparents who have a hard time finding a middle ground with their three modernized grandchildren.” Marisa Tomei will play their daughter Alice whose rocky relationship with her parents is healed by watching them interact with her children despite their conflicting approaches to parenting. Scott will play Alice’s husband. Andy Fickman (The Game Plan) will begin shooting the comedy this fall in Atlanta.
Hit the jump for casting news for Alex Proyas’ adaptation of Paradise Lost.
In what still feels like a horribly ill-advised attempt to adapt John Milton’s Paradise Lost, the film’s cast continues to add archangels. Bradley Cooper is set to play Lucifer, the archangel who rebels against God and begins a war in Heaven. Prior casting for the archangels includes Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) as Michael, Djimon Hounsou as Abdiel (The Angel of Death), and Casey Affleck as Gabriel. Now Variety reports that Callan McAuliffe (I Am Number Four) has joined their ranks as the archangel Uriel. Michael commands the army in Heavy and Uriel is his second-in-command. Variety also reports that Diego Boneta (Rock of Ages) is being considered to play Adam.
The big-budget film, which will reportedly “feature eye-popping aerial warfare that may be shot in 3D” is set for release in late 2013. McAuliffe is also co-starring in The Great Gatsby as a young Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio).
