The upcoming Tomb Raider reboot is one step closer to being a reality.  Producer Graham King’s (Hugo) GK Films recently teamed up with MGM on the project, and now former Buffy the Vampire Slayer writer/producer Marti Noxon has been tapped to write the screenplay for the Tomb Raider redo.  This is good news for a couple of reasons.  Firstly: Noxon’s resume is as varied as it is impressive, as she has previously penned episodes of Mad Men, Glee, and Angel.  Additionally, it’s very refreshing to see that a woman will be crafting the script and story for a female-led adventure franchise.  Hit the jump for more.

Per Variety, Noxon will be handling scripting duties for the Tomb Raider reboot for MGM and GK Films. Noxon has recently been dipping her toe into the feature film world, having penned the screenplays for I Am Number Four (a thankless task due to the awful source material) and the Fright Night remake.  Noxon is also working on a film for Pixar, though the nature of the project is unsurprisingly under wraps.

We don’t yet know the direction that this new Tomb Raider film will take, but the story is presumed to center on the exploits of the video game series protagonist Lara Croft, an archaeologist with a knack for globetrotting adventures. I’m interested to see what kind of film Noxon and King have in store for us.  Given the recent flurry of strong female characters doing well at the box office (The Hunger Games, The Avengers), Hollywood has put a number of projects in development that hope to tap into the female moviegoing crowd.  Fingers crossed Noxon and Co. hit this one out of the park.
