I generally don't like to check out extended clips of footage from films ahead of their release. Call me old fashioned but, similar to how I try and avoid cherry picking music singles before listening to the entire album, I like to think of records and movies as complete bodies of work. Of course, I say all of this only to preface breaking my own general rule. I implore you to watch the first 12 minutes of writer/director/actress Brit Marling's Sound of My Voice. I did, I don't regret a single moment of it, and now I can't wait to check out the entire film as soon as possible. All self-contradiction aside, in this week's "Top 5" installment you'll find Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance interviews with talent like Nicolas Cage, Idris Elba, Johnny Whitworth, and directors Neveldine/Taylor, a recap of our 21 Jump Street set visit, trailers and a featurette for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Transformers 4 news, and Avengers, Star Wars, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation toy images from the 2012 Toy Fair. Check out a brief recap and link to each after the jump.1. GHOST RIDER SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE Interviews with Nicolas Cage and MoreNicolas-Cage-Ghost-Rider-2-Spirit-of-Vengeance-interview-sliceI said way back in October that Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance had earned my interest solely by virtue of Nic Cage/Johnny Blaze pissing fire in the trailer. Based on that statement alone, I think you can probably deduce that I'm not expecting the pic to be "good" as much as I'm expecting it to be "so ridiculous that you can't help but have a good time while watching it". Whether you have a similar outlook or if you're legitimately psyched about the sequel for other reasons, I think you'll do well to check out our video interviews with the aforementioned Cage, Idris Elba, Johnny Whitworth, and co-directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor.2. 21 JUMP STREET Set Visit Recap and Interviews with Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and More21-jump-street-channing-tatum-jonah-hillI have a confession to make: based on what I've seen thus far, I think Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum look awesome playing off one another in 21 Jump Street. In fact, if I'm comparing the footage to a recent pic with a similar "buddy cop" premise, then I have to say that I've already laughed more during the 21 Jump Street red band trailer than I did throughout the entirety of Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg's The Other Guys. Given my love for both Ferrell and Wahlberg, that's not easy for me to type. All of this in mind, if you would like to learn more about 21 Jump Street from a first-hand account of the film's set, then look no further than Brendan's set visit recap and on-set interviews with Hill and Tatum, directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, producer Neal Moritz, Dave Franco, and Brie Larson. 3. ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER Trailers and Featuretteabraham-lincoln-vampire-hunterCount me among those who are currently on the fence regarding Timur Beckmambatov's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. On paper, it sounds like an immeasurably silly premise that has potential to be ridiculously fun. On the other hand, we have a featurette where Mr. Beckmambatov assures us that he's telling the "secret part of Lincoln's life". Sigh...While we'll have to wait until June 22nd to partake in this "secret part of Lincoln's life", I encourage you take a few minutes to check out this teaser trailer and slightly elongated international trailer for the purpose of drawing you own conclusion.4. TRANSFORMERS 4 News: Michael Bay Returns, Release Slated for June 29th, 2014michael-bay-3d-sliceThis week, we not only learned that Michael Bay would return to ultra-profitable world of Hasbro's Transformers, but also that the pic is slated to be released on June 29th, 2014 and that, wait for it, the pic would be a reboot of the franchise. And all of this in one post, no less! Since then, we've also reported some rumors swirling around regarding the franchise which suggest that the fourth installment will be less a reboot in the traditional sense (i.e. starting from scratch) and more in the way of shifting the primary perspective from that of Sam Witwicky to the robots themselves. As for me, well, I almost fell asleep just typing that last sentence. Many, though, are still passionate about the franchise and I'd be interested in hearing whether or not this idea interests them.5. 2012 Toy Fair Reveals New AVENGERS, STAR WARS and G.I. JOE RETALIATION Toy Imagesavengers-movie-toy-image-sliceSure, I'm 25 years-old and well aware that society would prefer that I not be interested in action figures anymore. That said, anyone that claims the Thor pictured above doesn't look like a total badass with that sweet, sweet, mythological trident is only fooling themselves.
