Now available on VOD (and available on Netflix in a month) is writer/director Ana Lily Amirpour's A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night. Marketed as the world's first "Iranian Vampire Western" the film premiered last year at Sundance and earned Amirpour the Gotham Award for Breakthrough Director. In addition to its digital release and its theatrical run in more than 75 markets, Amirpour's feature debut will receive a special edition Blu-ray release on April 21st with nifty art design by radco which has also released a comic series based on the pic.

Set in the fictional ghost town "Bad City", A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night is an expertly crafted vampire tale with style and substance to spare. Starring Sheila Vand as a lonely vampire who stalks Bad City's desolate populace and Arash Marandi as a cool but conflicted James Dean-type who falls for her, the film is a beautiful, dreamlike experience that is more concerned with making you feel something than beating you over the head with exposition. The result is a must-see work that deftly combines elements of horror, western, and romance in a way that is both wholly original and obviously flattering to the works of Lynch, Tarantino, and Leone.

1. SXSW 2015 Coverage

Austin's 2015 edition of South by Southwest wraps up this weekend and, from a film perspective at least, we've done our level best to keep you in the loop on all the festival's happenings. 2. INSURGENT Interviews and Review

The second installment in the Divergent series, Insurgent, hits theaters this weekend and while this news isn't necessarily relevant to my interests, I understand that I may be in the minority. 3. First Trailer for PIXELS

Sony released the first trailer for Pixels this past week and while I'd love to never see Adam Sandler and Kevin James in the same movie again, I'm holding out a small amount of hope that it actually turns out okay. Most of said hope is tied to Chris Columbus being at the helm and my undying love of both of his Home Alone movies. Then I remind myself that those movies came out over 20 years ago and I haven't liked really anything he's done since. Damn my optimistic heart.

4. Rumor: Batman's Connection to SUICIDE SQUAD Revealed

Steer clear of this one if you're trying to avoid any/all spoilers for Zach Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Rumors surfaced this past week regarding how Ben Affleck's Batman will fit into David Ayer's Suicide Squad. These rumors are all well and good, but my biggest concern with the forthcoming DCCU remains to be how they plan on making up ground on the almost eight year head start they gave the MCU.

5. Supercut Compares Films' First and Final Frames

I suppose that this too could be considered spoiler material if you haven't seen all of the films, but it's a cool idea that's well executed regardless. Check out Jacob T. Swinney's supercut that compares the first and final frames of some well-known movies and tell me you're not convinced that medium can produce genuine magic.
