With this weekend's domestic release of some little flick called The Avengers, the summer movie season is officially off and running. Although it's easy for the comic book fan in me to rank The Avengers, The Amazing-Spider Man, and The Dark Knight Rises as my top three most anticipated summer pics, I thought it might be a nice exercise to quickly list what else the Summer of 2012 is offering that will likely tickle my moviegoing fancy. That said, because absolutely no one asked my opinion, here are five of my other most anticipated summer films (listed in chronological order by release date): Ridley Scott's Prometheus, Steven Soderbergh's Magic Mike, Seth MacFarlane's feature debut Ted, Fernando Meirelles' 360, and John Hillcoat's Lawless. As always, I'd love to hear from you, the reader, about what you're looking forward to seeing on the big screen in the coming months. By all means, use the comments section liberally. In this week's Top 5 you'll find a ton of interviews, Matt's review, and other ancillary bits for the aforementioned The Avengers, Steve's coverage from his visit to the Istanbul set of Skyfall, the third trailer for The Dark Knight Rises, a new trailer, images, and posters for The Amazing Spider-Man, and the first full-length trailer for The Expendables 2. A quick recap and link to each ensues after the jump. 1. THE AVENGERS Interviews with Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, and MoreChris-Hemsworth-Chris-Evans-The-Avengers-interview-sliceDepending on the film in question, I'll sometimes use the brief recap as a way of "selling" the movie by describing why I think people might care about our coverage of it. This is not one of those cases. The Avengers requires zero "selling" on my behalf. So, with that said, here's our The Avengers coverage from this past week, have at it: video interviews with Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner and Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg and Cobie Smulders. After making your way through all of the above, also make sure to stop by Matt's review of the film and, after you've seen it, this "Ending Explained" article.2. Our SKYFALL Set Visit Coverageskyfall-james-bond-movie-logo-sliceWhen trading e-mails back and forth with Steve, it really comes as no surprise to me when he responds from his phone with things like "I'm in Istanbul" or "I'm in [insert geographical location that you're 99% sure you'll never have the chance to visit]". That in mind, this week our own Editor-in-Chief was in, you guessed it, Istanbul, Turkey visiting the set of the new bond film, Skyfall. As a result of his strenuous traveling schedule, you and I can partake in the fruits of his labor in the form of: "20 Things to Know About Skyfall & Video Blog Recap", a Daniel Craig, Bérénice Marlohe, Naomie Harris, and director Sam Mendes press conference, and individual interviews with Daniel Craig and producer Barbara Broccoli, Sam Mendes, Naomie Harris, Bérénice Marlohe, and Ola Rapace. 3. Trailer #3 for THE DARK KNIGHT RISESchristian-bale-the-dark-knight-rises-sliceRemember what I wrote all the way back in topic #1 about not having to "sell" The Avengers? Yeah, well, go ahead and ditto that for this new trailer for The Dark Knight Rises. It's good and I'm at least as excited and possibly more excited than any grown man should be for it. End of story.4. New Trailer, Images, and Posters for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MANamazing-spider-man-sliceI can't help but feel like these are lonely days for Mr. Parker and company. While his Marvel counterparts are busy being the toast of the silver screen, it's all our favorite wall crawler can do to continually release assets for his upcoming installment much like an only child who now has to fight for attention after the arrival of his much-anticipated, long gestating, and extremely popular younger siblings who all happen to be superheroes too. Given that he's in a tough spot right now, let's all do Spidey a solid and check out this latest trailer, director Marc Webb's Q&A following its debut, these new posters, these new images of the man himself, and these new images of his foe, The Lizard.5. First Full-Length Trailer and New Teaser Trailer for THE EXPENDABLES 2the-expendables-2-sliceDialogue like "I now pronounce you man and knife" can really only mean two things: 1) Jason Statham has a new movie on the horizon, or 2) The Expendables 2 now has a full-length trailer to its credit. It just so happens that, in this case, both options are correct. That being said, I encourage you to click here to check out the first trailer from The Expendables 2 and learn why The Governator and Smart cars will never mix. Oh, and in case you haven't had your daily dose of being yelled at by Terry Crews, you can also click here for a teaser trailer of the pic that will remedy that in a jiffy.
