‘Toy Story 4’: Tom Hanks Shares Photo of His Final Session as Woody

     January 30, 2019

In today’s news that is just going to be goddamn devastating to those of us of a certain age, Tom Hanks took to Twitter to share a photo of himself recording his final line as Woody for Toy Story 4. The actor, of course, has been providing the voice of the beloved toy cowboy since 1995 alongside Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear.

First of all, two-time Oscar-winner Tom Hanks signs his tweets as “Hanx” and that’s adorable. Never change, T. Hanks. Secondly, while the actor clearly says it’s his “final line, final session” on Toy Story 4 and not forever, it’s likely this next installment is the franchise’s last. With the way Toy Story 3 wrapped up, the fourth chapter seemed like a surprise in itself, and Hanks has hinted in the past that the Pixar series is done for real for real this time.

“When I went in for my last day of recording, I wanted to have my back to them, because usually you’re facing them so you can look right up and you can talk about it,” Hanks told BBC. “But I didn’t want to see them and I wanted to pretend they couldn’t see me. When I realized what they were going for, I realized, ‘Oh, this is a moment in history.'”

Here’s the official synopsis for Toy Story 4:

Woody (voice of Tom Hanks) has always been confident about his place in the world, and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. So when Bonnie’s beloved new craft-project-turned-toy, Forky (voice of Tony Hale), declares himself as “trash” and not a toy, Woody takes it upon himself to show Forky why he should embrace being a toy. But when Bonnie takes the whole gang on her family’s road trip excursion, Woody ends up on an unexpected detour that includes a reunion with his long-lost friend Bo Peep (voice of Annie Potts). After years of being on her own, Bo’s adventurous spirit and life on the road belie her delicate porcelain exterior. As Woody and Bo realize they’re worlds apart when it comes to life as a toy, they soon come to find that’s the least of their worries.
