Trainwreck screened at SXSW last month as a work in progress, but even if director Judd Apatow left it as is, he’d still be delivering his best film (as a director) since Knocked Up. (And that’s coming from someone who enjoyed Funny People and This is 40.) Trainwreck stars Amy Schumer as Amy, a magazine writer in New York City who lives by what her father (Colin Quinn) taught her as a child - monogamy isn’t realistic. She sleeps with anyone she pleases and dates with zero commitment until she meets sports doctor Aaron Conners (Bill Hader). You can check out what happens when Aaron surprises Amy with a phone call the morning after they sleep together below.
It isn’t the funniest standalone clip, but I can assure you that the moment works well in context, which is actually quite similar to the large majority of the material in the film’s disappointing first trailer. Here’s the official synopsis for Trainwreck:
Since she was a little girl, it’s been drilled into Amy’s (Schumer) head by her rascal of a dad (Colin Quinn) that monogamy isn’t realistic. Now a magazine writer, Amy lives by that credo—enjoying what she feels is an uninhibited life free from stifling, boring romantic commitment—but in actuality, she’s kind of in a rut. When she finds herself starting to fall for the subject of the new article she’s writing, a charming and successful sports doctor named Aaron Conners (Bill Hader), Amy starts to wonder if other grown-ups, including this guy who really seems to like her, might be on to something.
