Earlier this week, we reported that Michael Bay would be rebooting his own damn franchise with Transformers 4, an idea so stupid that it's truly fitting of these movies. In a recent interview with E! Online, Josh Duhamel says he's not coming back for the sequel and neither is anyone else:
"I don't think anybody's doing it. I know Shia [LaBoeuf]'s not doing it. I don't think Tyrese or Rosie [Huntington-Whiteley] or anybody else is doing it."
Take this with a grain of salt. Actors are the last to know anything regarding a movie's production. LaBeouf previously stated Transformers: Dark of the Moon was his last one, but then again, so did Bay. Either way, it's not like the cast makes much of a difference in these movies. Transformers 4 opens June 29, 2014. [Update: Some new and more reliable rumors have surfaced regarding the film. Hit the jump for more.]
While Duhamel is talking about casting for a movie that doesn't even have a script yet, Badass Digest has some more believable news regarding the plans for the sequel. The movie will be a true sequel and follow the events of Transformers: Dark of the Moon but the "reboot" aspect comes from changing the point-of-view from Sam Witwicky to the Transformers. That's not a horrible idea and it's a worthwhile approach provided they write strong characters. If you end up writing transformers like Skids and Mudflap, the movie will be unbearable.
Additionally, a source tells BD that the movie will be more like the last hour of Transformers: Dark of the Moon. That means a lot more action (if that's even possible, but I'm sure Bay will find a way) and a lot less silly humor. Since intentional humor hasn't really been the series' strong suit (although there were plenty of fun moments in the first movie), I wouldn't mind cutting back on stuff that doesn't work. Stuff that did work: Jon Voight's pronunciation of the word "robot".
Of course, filming is still a ways off so all of this can change, but these non-casting rumors are at least beginning to get me back on board with a new Transformers movie.
