Man did people pretend to be really angry when Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn were officially cast as the leads in True Detective Season 2.  This is such a strange case of armchair casting where people are decrying who is or isn't right for a role that they know nothing about.  Have they read the scripts for the season?  No.  Also, after Failure to Launch would anyone have branded Matthew McConaughey as a likely candidate to pull off a role like he did on the show last year?  Nope.

So onto the actresses.  There are reports hitting that Rachel McAdams has been offered one of the female leads by HBO.  There is also a list of eight actresses that are ostensibly up for another part. Again we know nothing about the characters these people will be playing so there would be no degree of accuracy involved in me saying who I think would be best (except for the fact that I think Brit Marling is due to break out of the Fox Searchlight bubble if she happens to be the right woman for the job).  Hit the jump for more on the actresses in contention for True Detective Season 2.

Rachel McAdams has been offered one of the female leads on the show with the previously rumored Taylor Kitsch closing in on a deal as well.  Per Variety:

McAdams and Kitsch are expected to play cops alongside Farrell, while Vaughn plays the crime boss whose empire is threatened when his partner is murdered.

But, as we've been hearing for a while, it's likely that there will be more than one big part for a woman on the upcoming season.  Per Deadline, there's another list of actresses invited to read for creator Nic Pizzolatto today, and hopefully it's for that other part. They include Rosario Dawson, Kelly Reilly, Jessica Biel, Malin Akerman, Abigail Spencer, Oona Chaplin, Jaimie Alexander and the aforementioned Brit Marling.

Phew! That's a lot of True Detective Season 2 news.  Let's hit the break room with McConaughey and Harrelson.
