For those of you who, like myself, have been x-ing out days on the calendar leading up to the 2016 release of Showtime’s Twin Peaks reboot, today brought a giddy surprise. In anticipation of the show’s release, the pay-cable channel has released a teaser trailer for the rebooted series, one that not surprisingly doesn’t give much information as to what will be going on in David Lynch and Mark Frost‘s favorite fictional American town. The seconds-long clip features Michael J. Anderson‘s Man from Another Place – you know, the short man in the red suit who dances in the room with red curtains – in a variety of images and, honestly, that’s really it. Anyone looking for a sense of where the story, which originally centered around the murder of Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee) and the odd, perverse, and violent people she left behind in the titular town, will not be happy but for Lynch junkies (*raises hand*), it’s enough to just see the show’s logo-font preempting a light-green Showtime logo.

Here’s the teaser trailer for the new Twin Peaks:

On top of this, today brings word from TV Line that Peter Sarsgaard, who will next be seen in Experimenter and recently had a small role in Black Mass, has joined the cast of the reboot. No word yet on who his character will be, but that’s not exactly surprising, considering the fact that no other new cast member, including Amanda Seyfried, Balthazar Getty, and Robert Knepper, has revealed their role in the new series. The only thing we know for sure is that Kyle MacLachlan will be returning as the inimitable Agent Dale Cooper, and that, if the trailer is any sign, Anderson’s mystical character will play some part of the new happenings. MacLachlan has been spending time playing the delightful mayor on Portlandia on IFC, but there is no proper way to explain the excitement of seeing him return to his most iconic character and reteam with the brilliant, enigmatic Lynch.
